Superfood Nut Milk Elixir Lesson

by Leisa on February 5, 2011

I’ve been at it again, making the most delicious and healthy drinks in my new kitchen!  In the video below, I show you two different ways of making a nut milk, using both a Nut Milk Bag and my slow juicer.  We then blend an amazing mix of herbs and superfoods into the nut milk, to make a delicious and satisfying Superfood Nut Milk Elixir.  The recipe is below the video in a PDF file.  I hope you enjoy!

A similar elixir to this one is one of the many medicinal and healthy drinks we create at the Embracing Life! Retreats. If you like what I did in the video above, come along and experience what we do with a week of fantastic food and drinks at one of these retreats. The next one coming up is in Byron Bay on the 27th of March! Have a look at the testimonials from some of the lovely guests at the retreats, to see what other people are saying about their Embracing Life! Retreat experience.

Hi Leisa

Looks delish! Where do you get your chaga powder? I have never been able to find it in Aus?

Thanks, Tash x

Hi Leisa
also wanting to know where you purchase the medicinal mushrooms from in Aus as I have read that a lot of them are irradiated ? can you advise. thanks

Also wondering where you get the reishi and chaga pdr. I bought some reishi pieces on line but couldn’t find any chaga. Have been buying capsules from Mushroom Sciences in Canada but so expensive.

Great video and loved the first one touring your kitchen. I remember there was a few other things you had that I wondered where you got them from.

Maybe you could do an article on where to source these superfoods in Australia as they are so hard to find. My local Health food shop has started stocking raw cacao, bee pollen, acai and chia seeds after going to the last David Wolfe conference in Sydney so that is a good sign.

Many thanks…..Lorraine

Hi Leisa,

It looks great! I echo the comments above – please can you let us know where you get your mushroom powders from? I have not been able to find them in Australia either.

Best wishes,
Tania

Hi Leisa,
After spending the day with you and David on the permaculture day, (2 weeks ago), I am really excited to start on the mushrooms that David was talking about. And the ‘tea’ that we drank was amazing. So amazing that I am sure my kids will even drink it. I am desperately trying to locate these mushrooms and I noticed in the video that you have large bags of the powdered mushrooms. Could you please share where you get these? and the cinnamon/dandelion mixture would be great! Any information is greatly appreciated.
Blessings to you
Sarah

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your comments and feedback – much appreciated! I purchased my Chaga from overseas, from a company called Mushroom Harvest. I couldn’t get any other mushrooms in, but they let Chaga through without irradiating it – it just had to be labelled “organic food – cannot be irradiated”. I purchased my Reishi from Raw Power http://www.rawpower.com.au and I often get my superfoods from them – very easy to order online!

There will be more mushroom suppliers starting up now – Samudra have sourced some Reishi and Miitake and are now selling that as a powder – so it’s starting!

Hi Leisa
Thanks for the info. Just wondering if you have purchased any herbal formulas from Jing herbs, mountainrose herbs or dragon herbs in the States ? There are a few things I would like to try from the longevity warehouse but again not sure about importing the herbs etc into Australia incase they get irradiated. I will check out samudra also. Thanks & best wishes

Hi,

came across your site trying to also find chaga powder uniradiated in Australia, in fact so far i am having trouble getting chaga here at all. So far no luck, however i did email “mushroom harvest” and am awaiting a reply. You mentioned other people who are starting to get mushrooms in. Please let me know if you are aware of other supliers in australia selling unirradiated chaga mushroom/powder.

If i don’t have any luck in the next week you may get a letter from me the mail. I am determined to get chaga as i feel it is what i am really needing.

Yours sincerely,

Maryke

Hi Maryke,
I know there are people that are starting up production of Chaga in Aus, but I’m not sure if it is for sale as yet. I know Samudra http://www.samudra.com was putting together a mushroom mix that was Reishi and Chaga (I think!) but I couldn’t find it for sale on their website, so you might have to email them and see if they are still producing it, they might have a little more info about it too. Also Damian at http://www.extremesuperfoods.com is very into superfoods and Chaga so he may have some news for you as he was investigating mushroom suppliers in Aus. Good luck with it!

If you want to take mushrooms like chaga and reishi you should be aware that you can’t digest them unless you extract the bio-active components in some way, e.g. when making tea. Buying readymade extracts are actually the most effective path to choose if you are battling a condition like psoriasis or an allergy.

This blog post (non-commercial) is very helpful if you want to find out how to judge the various mushroom supplement offerings online:

Thanks Don – that is so true, there are a lot of very good extracts that process the mushrooms properly so that you are getting active ingredients, however many don’t, so thank you for pointing that out. Leis xx
